At the Leading Family Hotel & Resort Dachsteinkönig in Gosau near Salzburg, guests can now immerse themselves in virtual worlds. The programmes are specially tailored to families.
The Leading Family Hotel & Resort Dachsteinkönig in Gosau near Salzburg in Austria is now focussing on virtual reality games. Hotel director Florian Mayer has developed a special room equipped with the HTC Vive Pro and Ocolus GO virtual reality systems. The systems are designed for up to four players, but can also be used individually.
Family holidays suddenly become exciting again
The selection of applications has been tailored to families. Children aged ten and over can use the virtual reality room when accompanied by an adult, while teenagers aged 14 and over are free to use the facilities. It is precisely for the latter that family holidays, when they are slowly becoming "uncool", are to be made exciting again.
The motto of the offer is games, sport and fun: this includes creative experiences, knowledge games, sport and many different games that expand the boundaries that we know from reality. A unique alternative for evenings and when the weather doesn't play ball, according to the hotel website.
Board games alongside virtual reality games - there's room for both
Hotel director Florian Mayer is open to technological progress. Although the Dachsteinkönig still has board games in its repertoire, he believes that digital applications, apps and virtual reality are on trend. Mayer: "We are moving with the times and tourism businesses in particular could no longer exist without technology. I draw the line to the digital world where it intersects with real-life hospitality."
In the virtual worlds, players can go on a climbing tour without ropes or hooks, explore the human body as a submarine in the bloodstream or fulfil their dream of flying into space as an astronaut. One highlight is the "Cirque du Soleil" performances staged especially for the application, which can be experienced interactively in 360 degrees and in the front row.
