PSVR: "Of course, it's still not an absolute mass-market product."

Sony has sold over three million headsets worldwide since the launch of its PlayStation VR, which has been on the market since 13 October 2016. That is considerable. However, considering that over 80 million PS4 units have been distributed globally since the launch of the PlayStation 4 (since November 2013), even the PSVR represents only a fraction of console owners.

But what is the current state of PlayStation VR and where is the VR journey heading? Benjamin Braun from our partner Games.ch grabbed Jochen Färber from Sony Interactive Entertainment Germany at the PlayStation VR event in Munich and asked him a little about the state of VR things.

"Of course, it is still not an absolute mass market product," says Färber. It is still a relatively new technology, and both users and developers still have to learn how to use it. However, he notes that the demand for more extensive games is slowly growing, if you think about implementations such as "Skyrim VR". The Elder Scrolls epic appeared first in full on the PSVR at the time. In addition, there were a few good accents that were set last year, such as for example "Farpoint" with the Aim Controllera concept that was very well received. Or also the 4-versus-4 tactical shooter "Firewall: Zero Hour"which, although not a triple-A production, was very well received by a supportive community with a lot of interaction with the developers. Färber is confident that the growing range of content and 360-degree videos is on the right track.

"We definitely have a number of great things in development," says Färber. Of course, further new editions of classics cannot be ruled out. You can also find out which of his absolute highlight games is or what he is particularly looking forward to in the interview with our colleagues, which is well worth watching.
