Immerse yourself in professional life with VR glasses

Virtual reality goggles have become indispensable at career fairs. They are designed to show pupils as close to reality as possible what they can expect later in their dream job.

The days when schoolchildren had to fight their way through dusty folders at the careers advisor's office to find out about the various professions are over. In the fight for the best apprentices, large and medium-sized companies today rely on the most modern technologies. They present themselves at career fairs and let interested young people immerse themselves in the world of different professions - with virtual reality glasses.

Coop, which trains 3400 apprentices, is fully committed to the new technology. "With the VR glasses, we show interested people the everyday working life of apprentices in retail trade, system catering and logistics," says spokeswoman Yvette Petillon. The feedback from the students on the films has been very positive.

17 VR videos at Migros

Competitor Migros also uses VR glasses. Young people can watch 17 different videos and immerse themselves in the world of work. The films feature apprentices who document their everyday work with a head-mounted camera.

At SBB, pupils who are interested in the profession of network electrician can even lend a hand themselves. "Under guidance, they can use VR glasses to repair overhead lines themselves at the career fair stand," says Janine Abt from SBB's education partner Login.

VR is also used in training

The offer is currently being optimised. "The experience of apprenticeships is to be further increased at future career fairs." From March, the first 360-degree videos will also be used in apprenticeship training.

Sanitary manufacturer Geberit has posted a film on its homepage in which interested young people can take a virtual tour of the company with VR glasses. An apprentice leads interested people through the production with a 360° panoramic view, showing the break room and the offices.

The glasses are now also being used at Geberit career fairs. "The playful use of the glasses serves to break the ice between the new world of professions and the students," says Rafael Anner, vocational instructor for design engineers.
