The surprise hit from a Czech developer duo is currently dominating the VR Twittersphere. It moves people in totally different target groups. And the game also scores very well in the fitness test.
Beat Sabers The game concept is as simple as it is ingenious: equipped with two lightsabers, VR players cut up approaching cubes to the beat of electronic music. This means they no longer just experience the music passively, but physically. The rhythmic harmony has an intoxicating and motivating effect, making the sweat flow in streams. The VR music game genre is nothing new in itself.
A huge success for the developers
The difference is that Beat Saber has perfected the game concept and thus reached new groups of players. Men report that their wives have only one thing on their minds early in the morning: Gaming. Or the son who proudly tells us that his father is playing.
Last week, the developers reported via Twitter that the game, which was released on 1 May, had sold 50,000 copies in its first week and was heading towards 100,000 units sold. At a price of 20 US dollars, 100,000 copies sold would correspond to a turnover of 2 million US dollars: an impressive sum for a team of two. This example shows that small developers can definitely earn money with VR games - provided they land a hit.
As sweat-inducing as tennis
Now the programme, which was launched last year VR Institute of Health and Exercise of the game. The health institute tests VR games using scientific methods and classifies them according to their fitness factor. For each title, values for average calorie consumption, maximum heart rate and metabolic equivalent can be viewed in tabular form.
Beat Saber burns 8 to 10 calories per minute, with calorie consumption increasing with increasing difficulty and the VR user's gaming experience, according to the kinesiologists in her report write. Beat Saber is comparable to a game of tennis in terms of physical activity and is suitable for endurance training.
The fitness experts recommend that you deactivate the option to fail in the higher difficulty levels. This way, you don't have to take a forced break to restart the respective section.
