Attention hobby railway enthusiasts!

Rolling Line could be a dream come true for fans of model railways as early as next month. Not only can you build your own world to your heart's content in the simulation, but different weather conditions will also be possible. What's more, you can drive along the track yourself from a first-person perspective.

The New Zealand development studio Gaugepunk Games is developing Rolling Line, a model railway simulation for virtual reality. This has a number of advantages over a real model railway: it saves costs and time and opens up possibilities that are difficult or impossible to realise in reality. For example, you can bring different weather conditions such as rain and thunderstorms into the simulation or experience a sunset in the miniature world. The charming toy train simulation Rolling Line also utilises what is perhaps the greatest strength of virtual reality: the VR glasses create space in the room. This allows you to experience vastness even in confined environments. Or build a virtual toy railway in the real broom closet.

Get into the locomotive yourself and experience the journey from a first-person perspective

In addition to the top-down view, players can also walk around the world and experience the track up close as a train driver, for example. Probably a dream of many amateur railway enthusiasts.

The fun with this application should also lie in designing your own track. To do this, you put together points and tracks from a virtual construction kit - just like you would on a real model railway. You can also equip the miniature world with suitable objects. The teaser trailers certainly give hope for a variable game.

Only the haptic factor, which railway enthusiasts certainly lack, cannot yet be offered. But as we can see with Konrad the Kitten have already seen, there are certainly solutions to this little problem.

Rolling Line will be available from 6 April on Steam will be available for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. In addition to the VR mode, you can also play with the model railways on the PC, for example to quickly tinker with the world.
