Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR in development

FoxNext, a division of 20th Century Fox, has confirmed that the game "Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR" for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR is currently in development. The release will even take place on 3 April 2018.

The VR action adventure takes place from a first-person perspective. You take on the role of an ape who has to escape from a human research facility with other members of his species. The story takes place between the films "Planet of the Apes: Prevolution" and "Planet of the Apes: Revolution".

"When you stretch out your hands, you don't see controllers or human limbs, but hairy, muscle-bound monkey arms. When you walk, you don't just hold down a button or float through the world. You first have to learn how to move like a monkey and swing your arms properly," says Ben Miller from FoxNext. "When you come across seemingly insurmountable walls or obstacles, you experience the wonderful feeling of being able to climb like a monkey."

Ben Miller adds about the gameplay: "We have come up with a unique combat system for this game that allows you to grab an object as cover with your hands and move in and out of cover by moving your virtual body. Everything is determined by your movements. We've removed almost all menu elements from the game to maximise immersion." For example, you can reach over your shoulder and pull out a semi-automatic M4.
