With the help of digital agency Valtech, Decathlon has created a VR application in which visitors can view the entire range of Queshua tents with real dimensions thanks to HTC Vive. This creates space and a real shopping experience.
Decathlon, the well-known manufacturer and retailer of sports equipment and clothing from France, is probably one of the leading shops in Europe with its wide range of Quechua tents. If you include all the famous "2 second" tents, the brand actually has more than 14 different models.
Pack 500m² into the VR
Some of these models are family tents measuring up to 8 x 4 metres. It is almost impossible to display all the models in all the shops, as this would correspond to an area of around 500m². Once again, VR comes to the rescue - the perfect tool if you have too little space at a trade fair or in a shop or showroom to display your entire range.
With the help of digital agency Valtech, Decathlon has therefore created a virtual reality application in which consumers can have a real tent experience with the Vive on site in around 12 selected shops. They can, of course, inspect the tent from the inside and receive all kinds of information. As a naked tent is most likely only moderately interesting and impressive from the inside, visitors will also be shown scenarios from the outside, such as a desert or a forest, and various weather phenomena will be staged. This gives customers the perfect shopping experience. Pitch your tent and test it at homeThe application will soon be available in the Oculus Store so that Samsung Gear VR owners can also access it from home. The application could therefore also be used for an online store. And while we're at it. How about augmented reality instructions for these oh-so-simple 2-second tents? Anyone who has ever had to put one of these things together without any prior knowledge or help knows what we're talking about. Interactive instructions would be really welcome here.
