HTC Vive Pro unveiled

On the CES 2018 HTC Vive Pro, an improved version of the previous VR headset, was unveiled in Las Vegas. The Vive Wireless Adapter was also announced.

HTC Vive Pro offers two high-resolution 3.5-inch OLED displays, each with a resolution of 1440×1600 pixels at 90 Hz. The previous HTC Vive has 1080×1200 pixels, which corresponds to an increase of 78 per cent. The field of view remains at 110 degrees. In addition, there are two integrated headphones with their own amplifier (can be removed), two dual microphones with active noise cancellation, an improved head mount and revised face cushions on board.

The improved sensors for SteamVR Tracking 2.0 ensure that the tracking area is increased. Up to 100 square metres can be covered. Up to four base stations are also supported. Another interesting feature is the second camera on the front. HTC Vive Pro will be launched on the market without accessories in the first quarter of 2018. A complete package will follow later in the year. No statements were made regarding pricing.

The Vive Wireless Adapter for HTC Vive and HTC Vive Pro was also announced. This allows the VR headsets to be connected wirelessly to the PC. The Vive Wireless Adapter will be released in the third quarter of 2018. The previous HTC Vive will continue to be sold in 2018. A price reduction can be strongly expected.
