An update is currently being rolled out for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to enable the smartphones to work with the VR glasses Google Daydream compatible. At present, this only applies to the USA and customers of Verizonbut other providers and Europe are expected to follow soon.
Analysts are sure that the support of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will lead to Google Daydream sales figures getting a boost. After all, the S8 is a very popular smartphone. Analysts believe that Google could sell around 3.5 million mobile VR glasses by the end of the year.
According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, at least 11 devices will be compatible with Daydream by the end of 2017, although it is unclear whether this means individual models or series. He mentioned the manufacturers Samsung, LG, Motorola and Asus. So far, the following smartphone models are compatible with the VR platform:
- Asus: Zenfone AR
- Google: Pixel and Pixel XL
- Huawei: Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design
- Lenovo: Moto Z and Moto Z Force
- Samsung: Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus
- ZTE: Axon 7
