On the Digilityconference and expo for VR in Germany, the Volkswagen Group presented the "Digital Reality Hub", a VR platform that allows employees to meet in virtual reality to exchange knowledge, regardless of their real-life location.
Volkswagen is the first car manufacturer to implement a company-wide VR solution. "Virtual reality creates ideal conditions for cross-brand and cross-location collaboration," says Jasmin Müller, a member of the company's internal Digital Realities development team. The team is responsible for VR solutions in the areas of production and logistics, including virtual environments for training courses and workshops.
In collaboration with the Munich-based VR start-up Innoactive, the team developed the so-called "Digital Reality Hub", which combines all of the Volkswagen Group's existing virtual reality apps and tools in one platform. Vive is used on the hardware side.
With the help of the platform, all employees have access to all VR applications. This enables individual departments to jump from application to application together in order to implement new application scenarios and plan new workflows.
In future, employees will also be able to take part in virtual workshops at other locations or receive virtual support from experts from other brands. This makes day-to-day teamwork easier and saves a lot of time.
