Tactical augmented reality glasses for US soldiers

At the Pentagon Lab Day in Washington, D.C., the US Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) and the Army Research Lab presented the prototype of a so-called "Tactical Augmented Reality"-glasses (TAR). Various technologies are used to network US soldiers with each other. According to the US Army, soldiers can access information and communicate with each other during missions. A small eyepiece is built into the soldier's combat helmet, which is connected to a tablet on the belt.

It is reminiscent of a video game, as the TAR system marks allies and enemies, displays a real-time 3D map of the operational area and scans the surroundings for objects or people. Even the distance to the enemy can be determined and forwarded. The "Tactical Augmented Reality" glasses are also connected to the thermal imaging camera on the soldier's weapon so that he can look around the corner. At some point in the future, TAR is set to replace the GPS system and night vision goggles. Perhaps the technology will even make it into consumer devices. The following video provides some impressions.
