Microsoft introduces 3D controllers for VR headsets

Microsoft has announced on the Build developer conference announced its own 3D motion controller for VR headsets to drive forward the mixed reality strategy. The design of the controller is very reminiscent of Oculus Touch. The position lights, for example, are also located on the outer part of the ring. As standard, the controllers are intended to be detected by the sensors built into Windows VR glasses, which are normally responsible for the spatial tracking of the headset. However, the tracking area can be extended using external sensors.

If there are no external sensors, the controllers must be held in the field of vision of the glasses. Otherwise they will not be recognised. Microsoft's controllers also offer an analogue stick, a touchpad and two triggers. The motion hardware is expected to be released for Christmas 2017. A price has not been announced, but it can be expected to cost around 100 US dollars. Manufacturers of Windows VR headsets can also order the controllers in the Bundle offer. Acer has already confirmed this. The video provides some impressions.
