Hololens: Cult game "Lemmings" in augmented reality

If you played PC games back in the 90s, "Lemmings" is likely to bring back childhood memories. The studio Globacore brings the suicidal voles of the classic 2D game into the three-dimensional real world using Hololens.

For those who only vaguely remember or don't know the game at all: In the game "Lemmings", released in 1991, you led your army, consisting of rather stubborn lemmings, through an underground realm full of obstacles and dangers. The mechanism was kept simple: The green-haired lemmings would stubbornly run straight ahead if you didn't intervene. So you had to give some of them vital tasks - such as digging trenches or building bridges - to save the little earth people from certain death.

Although the new AR app is not a fully-fledged game and only a feasibility study by the studio, it shows that the Lemmings are particularly suitable for an AR realisation: With the help of the technology, your own living spaces become a playground and objects such as sofas, tables and cupboards become constantly changing components of the level building.
