If you don't have the money or time to visit the world's museums, "Artheon" should be of interest to you. The VR application simulates an art history museum, which is why you can take a close look at the bust of Nefertiti or Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, for example. What is particularly interesting is the fact that you can choose the exhibits in the museum yourself. You call up the integrated search function and have the virtual rooms refurnished. In this way, you can quickly organise your own art museum.
More than 486,000 works of art are apparently available in the database. These were taken from the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the British Museum, among others. In the VR museum, you move from one exhibit to the next using a teleport function. It is possible to reach for the artwork with the right hand, which would be completely impossible in a real museum. At the same time, you can hold an information board in your left hand to find out more about it. Available YouTube videos are also displayed.
In addition, for the "Artheon VR Museum" curated exhibitions are also planned. For example, collections on Vincent Van Gogh and ancient Egyptian art are in preparation. The video provides some impressions of "Artheon". "Artheon" is being developed by the Californian studio Impossibility Lab and will soon be available free of charge for HTC Vive via Steam will be released. Conversions for Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and Google Daydream are also planned.
