Sony, in conjunction with PlayStation VR not just on games. This week, the PlayStation Store has released a new musical VR experience. Together with award-winning violinist and artist Joshua Bell, Sony has brought a live studio performance of Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 1" to life in full 360-degree VR. "With Adaptive Audio and Positional Tracking, the Joshua Bell VR experience takes you into the studio session and fully immerses you in the performance from every direction," said Ian Bickerstaff, Technical Director of SIE Immersive Technology Group.
Joshua Bell is a Grammy Award-winning violinist with a career spanning over 30 years as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and conductor. Ian Bickerstaff notes: "Using many Sony FDR-X1000V cameras, we captured high quality 360-degree video of Joshua's brilliant performance with his accompanist Sam Haywood." What's particularly exciting is that you can move through the 360-degree video.
This feature has been taken into account in the sound, as Ian Bickerstaff adds: "We've also added positional audio tracking. PSVR's binaural audio processing always provides mesmerising, directional surround sound. But the sound in this experience also responds to proximity: Move closer to Joshua and you'll hear every detail of his violin. Move back and you hear the natural reverberation of the room again." Incidentally, "Joshua Bell VR" is available free of charge, so nothing should stand in the way of trying it out.
