At the beginning of 2016, the Engagement Migros development fund has launched a matchmaking module to offer Swiss studios a platform on the international stage. In matchmaking sessions at festivals in Switzerland and abroad, the development fund connects Swiss developers with international investors and publishers such as Nintendo, Channel 4, Sony, Xiaomi and Arte. The aim of the meetings is to strengthen domestic studios and enable them to connect to the global market.
Two studios were able to win international deals at the matchmaking event at the Marché du Film Cannes 2016.
Apelab the Geneva-based studio, has signed a contract with Orange for the distribution of its VR games "Break a Leg" and "Sequenced" on the Orange VR Experience platform. The games will be released in December for iOS, Android, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Somniacs from Zurich have concluded a purchase and rental agreement with the major French cinema chain mk2 for the world's first bird flight simulator "Birdly". This will be available from the beginning of December in the new Virtual Reality Showroom shown by MK2.
These matchmaking events are a brilliant thing for developers. It enables them to exchange ideas with investors and publishers and work on potential projects. The next big matchmaking event is just around the corner. This will be Ludicious Zurich Game Festival and will be a big and important part of the festival. We naturally hope that further international deals with Swiss developers will follow.
