Another pair of glasses from a crowd-funding project is now available to order. These new glasses are manufactured by Fove Inc. from Japan. Everyone will immediately ask themselves whether they really need VR glasses and why. Well, that's a legitimate question, given the already impressive number of VR glasses. There is no clear answer to this question. But let's take a closer look at the glasses.
The technical requirements are exactly the same as for the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Visually, it does not stand out from the competition either. It is a single feature that makes the glasses unique. This is the "eye tracking" feature. In addition to the movement of the head, the pupil movement is also measured precisely. None of the competitor products do this. The user can therefore focus on different areas in the virtual world, just like in reality. It is also very easy to navigate through menu bars or select and execute functions. An action is triggered by a wink of the eye. This was already used as a pilot project in 2014 with a group of children with severe disabilities. The idea was to give the children the opportunity to play the piano despite their disability. The result - as you can see in the video - is very impressive.
The VR glasses therefore have a really interesting feature that can certainly be used well in the medical field. I can imagine some therapeutic approaches. At the moment, however, I don't see the masses buying this product. This would require the support of various developers. However, this is not foreseeable at the present time. The price of 549.- $ is definitely attractive.
