PlayStation VR dominates sales

PlayStation VR is currently the most successful VR headset, at least if you exclude the solutions that also require a smartphone. In the third quarter of 2017, according to a report by Canalys over one million VR headsets shipped worldwide.

PlayStation VR accounted for 49 per cent of all deliveries in this period, followed by Oculus Rift (21 per cent) and HTC Vive (16 per cent). VR goggles from other manufacturers still achieved 14 percent. Interest in VR hardware could increase further for the 2017 Christmas trade, according to reports.

The report also attributes the growing interest in virtual reality for home use to more and more VR arcades or VR experience zones, which are often found in Japan. There, one can experience titles such as "Mario Kart VR" and other well-known brands. This naturally creates a desire to dive into VR at home as well. PlayStation VR has a whopping 80 per cent market share in Japan. HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Dell are currently preparing their VR market entry, which is why a lot should happen in the near future.
