With VR and Kontiki to Finnish Lapland

At Contikithe travel agency for the north, the focus is on the experience. From 31 July 2017, people interested in the North can therefore look forward to 50 VR glasses. Virtual reality transports users to the centre of the snow-covered landscape of Finnish Lapland.

What is it like to ride in a dog sled or trudge through the endless white on snowshoes? What does a log cabin look like from the inside? What does it sound like, what does it look like? All of this can soon be experienced thanks to the elaborately produced 360-degree themed films at Kontiki in Baden or for four weeks at selected travel agencies throughout Switzerland thanks to VR glasses.

According to Bruno Bisig, Managing Director of Kontiki, the main aim of the VR applications is to convey emotions. "We want to show customers what the experience will be like. To answer questions such as, what do the Northern Lights mean or can I go dog sledding?"

How time-consuming the whole thing was Sky Production  was produced with GoPro cameras and drones and what the makers have to say about it:

You can get a first impression with the interactive maps on the 360° Kontiki world of experience website already in the run-up. The setting with a panoramic view is Luosto, a small town in Finnish Lapland. Click by click, you travel through familiar Luosto, into the kota or the log cabin. You start from a bird's eye view and click on the circles to get closer to the objects. You can even marvel at them from the inside: everything from the sauna to the bedroom can be inspected while the fire blazes in the fireplace, the kettle bubbles in the kitchen and Finnish television flickers in the living room.

According to Bruno Bisig, the next productions with the trend destinations of the Arctic and Antarctic are already being planned.

This makes Kontiki Reisen the second travel provider in Switzerland to experiment with VR. Back in January, the large chain Hotel plan made headlines with their VR applications.
