VR in the fashion scene

We have already shown that VR has already arrived on the fashion scene in our Report about the magic mirrors used in shopping centres. However, such VR solutions are not only popular with end consumers. VR is also becoming an increasingly important topic in the textile industry itself, especially among designers.

"The transformation has long since begun" headlines the Swiss Textile College (STF) on the programme for the Textile & Fashion Days 2017 event. The leitmotif of the Textile & Fashion Days 2017 is "Future Craft 2.0 - Digital meets Craft." The event will take place on Thursday, 23 March and Friday, 24 March 2017 at the STF at Hallwylstrasse 71 in 8004 Zurich and is open to anyone interested. You can register here:

At lectures and workshops, interested visitors can find out how old craftsmanship is combined with high-tech such as digital cutting or 3D printing. On Thursday, 23 March at 14:00 in Forum 1, there will be a lecture entitled "VR - The Next Big Thing" with Patrik Marty from the agency Responsive will take place. In addition to the regular programme, visitors can experience new technologies and innovative textile products as well as selected VR applications in the "Future Room" on Thursday and Friday.

Programme

Fancy some self-made fashion?

A not-so-serious idea: why wear real fashion at all? Weatherproof clothing could be enough in the future. With a very futuristic concept in which we all wear a VR headset 24/7, we could decide for ourselves in the morning what colour, pattern or virtual brand the shirt has. This is then fed into the system. It would be even more colourful if everyone could decide for themselves (with a serious selection, of course) what the other person should wear.

Intelligent clothing

And finally, serious again. The networking of people and smart devices as well as intelligent sensor technology will determine the future. This is also demonstrated by futuristic concepts such as the one from BMW, about which we reported. In addition to the data goggles, which provide the wearer with important information about the journey, the entire clothing also has various additional functions. With vibrating elements on the arms and legs, the clothing in this case provides information for navigation or indicates when the limit has been reached in an inclined position. The entire development has already begun, just look at the number of smart watches. So it remains exciting to see what the fashion sector and the entire textile industry will have to offer in the future.
