Samsung shows mobile VR glasses without smartphone

On the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Samsung not only presented the new version of Gear VR which now comes with a controller. Behind closed doors, the South Korean manufacturer only showed selected journalists a new and mobile VR headset that does not rely on a smartphone, unlike Gear VR or Google Daydream. The VR headset relies on self-sufficient technology. This means that the processors are built directly into the VR glasses.

However, it appears that only a prototype of the device exists so far, which is intended to demonstrate the computing power of the new Samsung Exynos 9 processor. It will probably be installed in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone. However, the smartphone has not yet been officially unveiled. The necessary details are therefore missing. What is certain, however, is that Exynos 9 will have its own computing unit for tracking processes and the machine vision ("computer vision"). The VR glasses therefore do not require external sensors. HTC is also working on a mobile VR device.
