Hulu launches 360-degree format with musicians

The streaming service Hulu is launching its new 360-degree format, it has been confirmed. This is "OnStage", which is basically a classic backstage report in 360 degrees. However, not only the live concerts of various artists are shown. The musicians are introduced in person, allowing fans to find out more about them. A new artist is highlighted in each episode.

It starts with the well-known US rapper Lil Wayne, who you can meet below in the 360-degree trailer can see. According to those responsible at Hulu, Lil Wayne is a virtual reality enthusiast anyway. In the second episode of "OnStage", viewers will accompany Major Lazer to a party in Jamaica. Hulu is focussing on music in VR, as this creates a high replay value. You can watch the videos again and again to discover new details.

As Hulu notes, the VR videos should be so compelling that you'll want to show them to friends and family. Hulu has long offered a VR app for its own service, which is available for Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, Daydream and Samsung Gear VR, but often only conventional 2D content is presented on a virtual cinema screen. You can look around the virtual space, but the video remains in 2D. However, real 360-degree content is also included.
