The normally well-informed business magazine Bloomberg has learned from people who are said to be familiar with the situation that Sony Interactive Entertainment wants to launch PlayStation VR 2 for the 2022 Christmas shopping season.
Whether the whole thing is true remains to be seen, of course. Furthermore, the unconfirmed report states that PlayStation VR 2 will rely on Samsung OLED panels. Neither Sony nor Samsung have commented on the information from Bloomberg. Sony has so far only revealed its next-gen VR controller unveils. However, there is no official information about the VR headset itself.
The report says: "Sony Group Corp. plans to use Samsung OLED panels in its next-generation PlayStation VR glasses, people with knowledge of the matter said." It added: "The Japanese console giant sold more than five million units of the original PSVR, which launched in 2016, and is aiming to release its successor in the Christmas season next year."
