Let applicants get a taste of a new job via virtual reality

A manager of a personnel services company from Mainz wants to patent a solution with which applicants get a better impression of the respective company by means of VR.

He wants to revolutionise the world of personnel services - at least to some extent. His idea is to present applicants with their workplace as an all-round experience for the eyes and ears during the job interview. And he wants to do it with the help of virtual reality. In concrete terms, this means that Steffen Andreas, head of the personnel services company KDS in Mainz - together with the camera team of "Die Felidae" from Düsseldorf - wants to have films and pictures made in all the companies he works with. These will then be prepared for the virtual reality glasses so that every applicant who introduces himself in the premises of KDS Personalberatung in Mainz Zollhafen can put himself in the shoes of his potential new job.

Reduce fluctuation

Those who put on the glasses and headphones can get an idea of what their new workplace might feel like. And thus, of course, better decide whether the job suits them or not. "Applicants often have a completely different idea of their workplace than it looks like in reality." With the new possibility, which ideally should be a part of every job interview in his company as soon as possible, he hopes to keep fluctuation as low as possible.

For all industries

The 31-year-old managing director calls his idea "Recruiting 4.0". It is supposed to be applicable for all industries. He says his company works with customers from all sectors, be it banking, production, forwarding and much more. If he has his way, they should all have a 360-degree video of their premises created in the foreseeable future to give potential new employees a better impression of the company, regardless of whether it shows offices, factory halls or even the common rooms. Steffen Andreas wants to patent his idea.

Against the shortage of skilled workers

With his company, he especially has the young generation in mind. "We don't have a shortage of skilled workers," he says. It is important to approach people in the right way, to take away the fear and resentment of temporary work. Taking time for the applicant, responding to him or her. For him, this also includes the new possibility to experience the future workplace virtually in advance.
