Virtual reality slide: "Space Glider" takes you into outer space

At Galaxy Erding, the slide world at Therme Erding, a new virtual reality slide now invites you to take a flight through space. Bathers are immersed in a virtual environment through virtual reality goggles.

For roller coasters e.g. in the Europa-Park or now also in the LEGOLAND virtual reality has been a topic for some time now. Now VR is coming to another, wetter corner of the amusement parks. Europe's largest slide world now has a new kind of experience to offer: With "Space Glider", Galaxy Erding presents a modern virtual reality slide where bathers are immersed in a virtual environment through virtual reality goggles while sliding on the familiar rubber tyres.

Off into space

Therme Erding near Munich speaks of a "new era of waterslides." While bathers slide down the 160 metre long "Space Glider" slide in tyres from a height of nine metres, they have a virtual environment before their eyes through the VR glasses. "Thousands and thousands of galaxies, shining planets, huge asteroids and spaceships - let yourself be whisked away into the infinite vastness of space", is the word from Erding.

Bathers can see the virtual world in a 360-degree view by simply moving their head. Movement in the computer-generated environment is analogue to the slide route.

Sensors adapt to speed

"This new dimension of sliding with a total investment volume of 300,000 euros was created in collaboration with the leading slide manufacturer Wiegand and Maelzer, Samsung and the VR professionals from Ballast", said Therme Erding about the new experience. There were probably a few technical tricks. For example, not everyone slides at the same speed. Sensors on the track are therefore used to slow down or speed up the film depending on the speed of the person sliding. The whole thing also has to be completely waterproof.

Galileo already reported on the upcoming news last summer.

Use of the new virtual reality water slide is not included in the regular admission price. If you want to experience it, you have to pay 2 euros per slide. Visitors must be at least 9 years old.

The new VR slide at Galaxy Erding is now open Monday to Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.
