The cinema film "Power Rangers" has AR support

Who else knows the five colourful superheroes called the Power Rangers? And what about the names and colours again?

Just to give everyone a quick refresher: Five teenagers, Jason, Kimberley, Billy, Trini and Zack, have nothing more in common than going to the same high school in the small town of Angel Grove. When Jason and Billy accidentally stumble across what they believe to be ancient fossils, they awaken an alien force that wants to wipe out humanity. Fortunately, they find out that they have superpowers for some inexplicable reason. When Zordon, the former Red Ranger, appears to them as a hologram, they learn more about their upcoming adventure.

Back in the story? It's been 20 years since the series flickered across our TV screens. The Power Rangers film was released in cinemas last week. The media company Lions Gate, which is distributing the film, has produced an augmented reality (AR ) application to promote the sci-fi film, which will finally turn you into a Power Ranger.

The app

Among other things, the app offers fans the opportunity to get into a Ranger suit and colour the suit themselves. You can also take photos and videos of the Rangers and the Zords, allowing the real space to merge with the virtual character. If you're wondering, what are Zords again? Zords are skyscraper-sized fighting machines that usually obey a Ranger and can form into a larger unit. So is the memory coming back?

You can use the application for iOS or Android download free of charge.

VR and AR as a film promotion tool

To develop the application called The Power Rangers Movie Command Centre, Lions Gate has teamed up with Studios Reel FX and QuiverVision worked together. The approach behind the promo is interesting: among other things, they wanted to show that the new Power Rangers have undergone a reboot. The AR application is therefore intended to revitalise the perhaps dusty image - if there is one at all for such cult figures - by showing something new. Of course, this works wonderfully with the innovative technology.

Promoting films with VR or AR seems to be becoming increasingly popular. The studio Warner Bros has already launched a VR application developed.

Of course, it is just as important that everyone who always dreamed of this as a child can be part of the team themselves.
