Ripstone Developments<\/a> will release \"Chess Ultra\" on 21 June 2017, which is compatible with PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It allows you to experience chess in virtual reality, this time in a rather creepy and gloomy atmosphere. The launch trailer gives a pretty good impression. According to Matt Southern, Head of Design at Ripstone Developments, \"Chess Ultra\" should be a challenge even for experienced players: \"Under the bonnet is an AI that is also out of competition. We have developed 10 different levels of artificial intelligence in collaboration with real-life grandmasters, and they will present you with numerous challenges.\" Beginners will also get their money's worth.<\/p>\n

To make \"Chess Ultra\" a special experience in virtual reality, you compete against Death, the \"Grim Reaper\". \"In Chess Ultra, you try to beat Death in the pits of Gomorrah, your mortal soul in balance. If you play well, you will irritate him, his eyes will burn with rage and lava will flow wildly around you. But if you lose, really lose, he reaches over and takes your soul. To make the experience even more intense, we've built a Fire and Brimstone chess set that literally burns. In VR, you can physically grab it and hold the pieces by using the motion controllers,\" says Matt Southern. VR and non-VR players can compete against each other in online multiplayer.<\/p>\n
