A new VR experience provides some relief. The Swedish start-up called SceneThere has created a VR experience of the sights and places in <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pj%C3%B6ngjang\">Pyongyang<\/a> 360-degree footage was created, which is why you can see Kim Il Sung Square (where the military parades take place) or Mansu Hill, for example. From the 170-metre high <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monument_der_Chuch%E2%80%99e-Ideologie\">Chuch'e Tower<\/a> overlooks the entire capital, while the videos have been stitched together to create an interactive 360-degree experience.<\/p>\n<p>The videos were already recorded in September 2016 by the co-founder of the start-up, Marcus Olsson. Six GoPro cameras were used. However, one should bear in mind that the recordings are welcome propaganda for the regime in Pyongyang. The recordings do not constitute investigative journalism, as there was always surveillance by the state and only the best sides of the city were allowed to be recorded.<\/p>\n<p>However, North Korea expert Andray Abrahamian, who has visited the country several times, has added audio commentary to the videos to provide a critical view of the footage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scenethere.com\/northkorea\/\">&#8222;North Korea VR&#8220;<\/a> is available on the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scenethere.com\/\">&#8222;SceneThere&#8220;<\/a> to see. The software may be used free of charge in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oculus.com\/experiences\/gear-vr\/1102200389827613\/\">Oculus Store<\/a> can be downloaded.
