Because he only sporadically continues to work on his product, he has a lot of time for other things, most of which he spends in virtual reality. Absorbed by it, it has become his everyday world. In it, he has just begun to re-enact the one varying dream that haunts him frequently and fragmentarily at night, and to continue staging it with missing parts until he understands its essence. So taken over by his project, the virtual world, that Malte and Fiete fear Francis will lose himself in it, he can understand his friends' concern and therefore appreciates their attempt to increasingly win him back for the real world. But he sees another way back for himself, and connected to this, he is primarily concerned with another fear, with which he confides in Amilia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8222;Liebe Amilia&#8220;, beginnt Francis den Brief. &#8222;Eben waren Fiete und Malte bei mir&#8220;, f\u00e4hrt er fort, &#8222;und haben mich gefragt, wie es mir ginge. Ich dachte mir, sie abspeisen zu k\u00f6nnen, indem ich sagte, es gelinge mir, \u00f6fter das Haus zu verlassen. Doch \u00fcber den Fortschritt erfreut, wollten sie nun wider Erwarten N\u00e4heres dazu wissen. Ich w\u00fcrde nun statt dreimal w\u00f6chentlich f\u00fcnfmal spazieren. Nicht, dass ich sie angelogen h\u00e4tte, jedoch verschwieg ich ihnen, jeweils k\u00fcrzer auszutreten. Ihnen zuliebe halte ich mich draussen auf, zuvordest ist mir aber, in der virtuellen Realit\u00e4t meinen wiederkehrenden Traum zu entr\u00e4tseln und auf diesem Weg insoweit wieder zu mir zu kommen, wie es n\u00f6tig ist, um wieder fest in der eigentlichen Welt zu stehen. Damit verbunden f\u00fcrchte ich, mich eher zu verlieren, wenn das Vorhaben scheiterte, als dadurch, dass die virtuelle Welt, in der es mir gelingen k\u00f6nnte, mich zu sehr vereinnahmte.<\/p>\n<p>Ich w\u00fcnschte, Amilia, du st\u00fcndest mir in alledem bei. Doch bist du in einem verschwunden, ohne je wieder etwas von dir h\u00f6ren zu lassen. Gerade vor Abbruch deiner Verbindung zu mir hattest du noch gemeint, in meinem Leben eine Konstante zu sein, dass ich auf dich z\u00e4hlen k\u00f6nne. Vice versa, sicherte ich dir zu. Puff, warst du weg. \u00dcberwiegend bin ich um dich besorgt, hoffe, dass dir nichts Schlimmes zugestossen ist. Daneben versp\u00fcre ich auch Wut, und etwas sagt mir, zurecht. Daher m\u00f6chte ich zwar erfahren, dass du wohlauf bist, nicht aber sehen, wie du auftauchtest, als w\u00e4re nichts geschehen. Ein Satz gen\u00fcgt, ein Satz von dir, dass es dir gut geht.
