Nintendo has announced \"Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit\", a new racing game for the Switch that uses augmented reality in a similar way to \"Pok\u00e9mon Go\", but with a big twist.<\/p>\n

You build a racetrack within your own four walls and race through the rooms with physical karts equipped with a camera. The additional track graphics, items etc. are then displayed on the Nintendo Switch screen. In principle, the trailer is better than any explanation, so just take a look.<\/p>\n

According to Nintendo, the kart reacts to events in the game: \"It accelerates during speed boosts, and if players are hit by an item in the game, the kart stops.\" Players can give free rein to their creativity when designing the track, according to the promise: \"Before the race, you create your own tracks by placing gates as waypoints.\"<\/p>\n

In Grand Prix mode, you can compete against the co-op pals to unlock new customisation options for the tracks and costumes for Mario and Luigi. You can also take part in heated races with up to three other players in local multiplayer mode. However, this requires four karts and four Switch consoles.<\/p>\n

The software itself is downloaded for free from the eShop, but you still have to buy a physical package consisting of a kart (Mario or Luigi), four goals, two directional markers and a USB charging cable. \"Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit\" will be released for the Nintendo Switch on 16 October 2020.<\/p>\n
